Defining Avian-Free Zones!
AviFence is an innovative startup committed to revolutionizing how we protect spaces from avian disturbances. Founded from a vision of combining advanced technology with environmental responsibility, AviFence is on course to become a fully established company by the end of 2025. Our system leverages precision-engineered ultrasonic point-targeting: using sensors and transducers, we emit concentrated sound waves directly at approaching birds to disrupt their behavior and encourage them to leave the protected area — without causing harm. Unlike traditional broad-area sonic systems, our directional technology ensures minimal noise pollution, maximum effectiveness, and complete compatibility with environmentally sensitive zones. By focusing sound precisely at identified birds, we eliminate unnecessary environmental disruption, while maintaining the natural balance of the habitat.
The need for effective bird control is increasingly critical across industries such as aviation, agriculture, and urban infrastructure. Birds such as starlings, sparrows, and pigeons not only cause significant operational damage but are also carriers of diseases including histoplasmosis, salmonellosis, and cryptococcosis, all of which can severely impact human health. AviFence offers a humane, non-invasive solution — targeting frequencies typically between 15,000 and 25,000 Hz, which are highly uncomfortable for birds yet safe and imperceptible to humans. Our technology avoids reliance on harmful chemicals or physical barriers, addressing both the ethical and ecological concerns of modern pest management. By precisely directing ultrasonic signals over long distances, we create bird-free zones with smarter, sustainable, and future-proof strategies, ensuring safer, healthier environments for everyone.
Application Areas of AviFence
AviFence delivers a scalable, intelligent deterrent system for managing avian presence in critical environments. Whether in agricultural fields, livestock operations, ports, airports, urban infrastructure, or solar installations, AviFence establishes geofenced, avian-free zones using non-invasive, precision-targeted technology. Designed to reduce contamination, protect assets, and enhance operational efficiency, AviFence offers a modern, ethical solution to avian-related challenges across diverse industries.
Field Crop Farming
Avian interference in European cereal cultivation, particularly in crops such as wheat, barley, and sunflower, can result in losses of up to 7–12% due to feeding and trampling by species such as wood pigeons and starlings (EFSA, European Commission Reports). AviFence offers a humane, non-invasive solution by establishing virtual geofenced boundaries that deter birds during critical growth and harvest phases, safeguarding yields and minimising economic loss.
Port Infrastructure
At major European grain terminals, including Rotterdam and Antwerp, unloading operations are frequently disrupted by bird activity. Birds feeding on exposed grain can cause direct cargo losses of approximately 0.1–0.3% per shipment and raise concerns regarding hygiene and compliance. AviFence geofences quay edges and unloading zones, significantly reducing bird presence during vulnerable operations and ensuring cleaner, more efficient cargo handling.
Animal Farming
In open livestock environments, wild birds are known to contaminate feed and water supplies, posing biosecurity risks and facilitating the spread of diseases such as avian influenza and salmonellosis. European studies have shown a measurable reduction in feed efficiency — up to 5% — when birds are present near livestock (EFSA Journal, 2020). AviFence enforces intelligent, contactless perimeters to protect animal welfare and maintain hygienic standards in accordance with EU farming regulations.
Solar Installations
Solar farms throughout Europe are increasingly affected by bird droppings and nesting, leading to panel efficiency losses of up to 15% and increased maintenance requirements (SolarPower Europe, 2022). AviFence geofences the perimeter of solar arrays to prevent perching and nesting, supporting consistent energy production and reducing O&M costs through proactive bird deterrence.
Urban Environments
In dense urban centres, species such as pigeons, gulls, and crows are responsible for extensive contamination of public spaces, infrastructure, and cultural landmarks. Municipal authorities across Europe report annual cleaning and restoration expenditures ranging from €20,000 to €100,000 per site, depending on exposure and historic value (Eurogroup for Animals). AviFence discreetly maintains bird-free urban zones, preserving aesthetics, public health, and municipal budgets.
Airports
Bird strikes represent a persistent threat to aviation safety, with over 1,000 incidents annually reported across major European airports such as Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Schiphol. The financial impact, including aircraft damage and operational delays, is estimated to exceed €500 million annually across the EU (EASA). AviFence enhances airfield safety by establishing avian exclusion zones using intelligent, non-disruptive geofencing that integrates seamlessly with ongoing operations.
